Classifier Training

Para DanceSport Classification is an essential requirement for fair competition. Para DanceSport classifiers assess the physical abilities of athletes in order to ensure that those with similar abilities compete against one another, thereby levelling the playing field.

Leading the Way

Wheel Dance has pioneered the field of Para DanceSport Classification in Canada and the Americas. We have trained the first-ever Para DanceSport classifiers and have classified all athletes who have participated in our annual competitions since 2016.

With Wheel Dance’s support, our National Head of Classification attended the International Paralympic Committee’s Classifier Training Course where he received training and certification as an International Para DanceSport Classifier. He is now the first and only IPC-recognized International Para DanceSport Classifier in the Americas and leads Wheel Dance’s Annual Classifier Training Workshops for local Para DanceSport Classifiers as well as the continued growth of the field in Canada and the Americas.

Education and Opportunity

Wheel Dance provides established classifiers with continuing education opportunities through our own organization as well as through collaborations with the broader ParaSport community.
